For most Alaska visitors, seeing a moose, bear or caribou for the  first time is reason enough to plan a trip up north. There is nothing quite like seeing these gentle beasts at home in their natural habitat and seemingly – everywhere. Surprise appearances of Alaska animals foraging for berries by the side of the road, coming round a corner on a hike or suddenly popping up nearby while you cast your rod into a meandering river make Alaska’s wildlife a prime and usually welcome attraction.

But what are the best times for viewing the different species of Alaska wildlife?
